Saxophone and Clarinet Masterclass with Michael Lichnovsky

Michael Lichnovsky

After completing a Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Iowa, Michael returned to Melbourne to commence teaching at Monash University and the University of Melbourne. He subsequently moved to Bendigo with his young family to head the Woodwind Department at Girton Grammar School.

As an instrumentalist, Michael has performed with Orchestra Victoria and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and has also been an active chamber musician. His involvement wth Elision and Libra Ensemble fostered his love of contemporary music and he has now premiered more than twenty new works. Michal's music-making is constituted by performing, teaching, conducting, researching, recording and writing. He has conducted orchestras, wind bands, choirs, and jazz groups from beginner to professional ensembles.

Trumpet Masterclass with John Foster

John Foster

John Foster is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading exponents of performance on historical trumpets and cornetto, and is the Artistic Director of the renowned ensemble Australian Baroque Brass. John has been a member of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra (2001-2013) and has appeared as soloist at festivals and concert series worldwide, and with many leading orchestras and ensembles, including: the Sydney Symphony, Sydney Philharmonia, Queensland Symphony, Adelaide Symphony, Norwich Baroque (UK). In 2011 John performed JS Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No.2 with Belgium's leading baroque orchestra 'Il Fundamento', and for the launch of the KammerorchesterBasel (Switzerland) 2012 season.

John has made several solo recordings on the ABC Classics and Tubicium Records labels. John is dedicated to education and has given masterclasses throughout the world, including at the Juilliard School of Music (USA), Sydney Conservatorium of Music, the Royal Northern College of Music (Manchester), the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, Northwestern University (Chicago), Indiana University, Bern University of Applied Sciences (Switzerland), and Conservatorio da Belo Horizonte (Brazil). He is the Director of the Australasian Trumpet Academy, which draws players from throughout the world to Australia.

The owner and curator of Australia’s largest collection of historical trumpets, John has also authored the acclaimed The Natural Trumpet and Other Related Instruments and, more recently, The Baroque Trumpet Revival.

In addition to his international soloist and teaching engagements, John consults with instrument makers on the design and construction of historical trumpets, including a collaboration with Norwich Natural Trumpets (UK) to design the new 'John Foster Model' Baroque Trumpet.
