Make music, new friends, and develop your ensemble skills in this brand new workshop series. Parents are invited to join us for the final 30 minutes of the workshop to hear a taste of what has been learnt through the day.

All band and orchestral instrumentalists welcome! Music will be aimed at Music Grade 2+. Read more about the Ensemble Workshop Series here.

We'd love to invite music teachers to come along to any of the Ensemble Workshops. Join us to experience each guest mentor's methods for ensemble rehearsals. Places are limited so please email Lauren Foreman to register, including your name, instrument (if relevant), which workshop/s you would like to attend, and please attach a copy of your working with vulnerable people check - info@tyo.org.au.

This workshop's special guest mentor conductor is Ben Castle, Head of Strings at Melbourne Grammar School. Joining him from Melbourne will be multi-instrumentalist tutor, Amberley Bremner, who conducts the Melbourne Youth Strings.

Ben Castle

Ben studied violin performance at Melbourne University and the Victorian College of the Arts. He has performed across Australia, in China, Europe and the USA with orchestras, in bands and for theatre and TV. His solo improvisation was used as the soundtrack for final year Dance students at Western Australia Academy for Performing Arts in 2001.

Ben performs with the Melbourne Baroque Orchestra and has served as Concertmaster of the Geelong Symphony Orchestra He performs regularly in chamber, orchestral and solo roles in the Melbourne and Geelong communities. He regularly presents string Masterclasses and workshops around Australia and he has conducted the Geelong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Armidale Youth Orchestra, Cairns Youth Strings, Victorian State Music Camp, Melbourne Youth Orchestras Summer School, and Geelong Summer Music Camp. Student orchestras under his direction have won awards in Australia, Hong Kong and the USA. Ben is currently the Head of Strings at Melbourne Grammar School and is a passionate educator.


Amberley Bremner

Amberley is a passionate and experienced educator, performer and conductor who has studied and performed both nationally and internationally. Alongside music education and performing, Amberley has studied a Masters of Music Therapy, working in children’s hospitals highlighting her passion for using music to nurture and inspire.

Amberley is actively involved in music education and conducts Melbourne Youth Orchestras’ Melbourne Youth Strings. She loves her position as Head of Junior School Strings at Scotch College, which fulfils her passion for instilling young people with a life-long love of, and appreciation for music. Amberley’s life is filled with music and she relishes any opportunity to share her fun with others.
