Founded in 1965, the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra is one of the oldest state youth orchestras in Australia. Our alumni have gone on to develop professional and community music careers and we are passionate about fostering the next generation of musicians and audiences.
The Tasmanian Youth Orchestra connects young Tasmanian musicians to some of the best musicians in Australia, providing orchestral experiences and inspirational leadership opportunities.
Our vision is to inspire, nurture and develop young Tasmanian musicians, to perform the very best they can and enjoy a lifelong love of music.
The TYO is available for new players just starting out playing in an ensemble for the first time, through to experienced players studying at the Conservatorium of Music. Our youngest players are 8 years old. We accept players of all ages up to 26 years old.
Tasmanian Youth Orchestra will turn 50 years old in 2015. This is a major milestone, that will be celebrated through a state-wide concert series, Tasmanian compositions, and TYO Alumni guests.
