TYO CHAMBER ORCHESTRA
NEW in 2021 | Conductor: to be appointed
New to the TYO program in 2021, the TYO Chamber Orchestra is to be a high-challenge ensemble with a focus on chamber orchestra repertoire. Musicians accepted to this group will also be considered for single-program extension placements with the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra during the year.
ABOUT THIS ENSEMBLE
Level: AMEB (or equivalent) GR5-7
Age range: 12-20 years
This ensemble provides experience rehearsing and performing challenging chamber orchestra repertoire, while honing ensemble and performance skills. Auditions are required. All musicians in this ensemble will also be considered for a single-program extension with the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra. An additional extension audition will be required and an extension placement is not guaranteed.
This orchestra rehearses and performs between February and November each year. At least 90% rehearsal attendance is expected. There are no rehearsals during Tasmanian school holidays.
The TYO Chamber Orchestra auditions for the following instruments
Violin | Viola | Cello | Double Bass | Flute/Piccolo | Oboe/Cor Anglais | Clarinet | Bassoon | Horn | Trumpet | Trombone/Bass Trombone | Tuba | Timpani | Percussion | Piano (some programs)
$635 for full year participation
Financial assistance available
All TYO ensembles have fees but they should never be a barrier to participating.
We offer a financial bursary program and fees assistance options. Payment arrangements are also available for those who wish to spread payments across the course of the year. Annual ensemble fees do not include entry to TYO concerts: concert tickets for family and friends need to be purchased separately.
TYO works to a culture of mutual respect and collegiality, aligned to TYO's values. Program and performance dates are confirmed at the start of each year. Musicians are required to be available for all scheduled performance dates. Strict COVIDSafe protocols are in place and must be observed at all times.
TYO believes strongly in promoting and supporting broad development of musical and leadership skills. For this reason, TYO operates to a rotation policy in which a.) principal chairs are not assigned in any ensemble and b.) section leadership roles and parts are allocated per program. Allocations are entirely at the conductor's discretion. The TYO Chamber Orchestra will appoint a different Concertmaster for each program and support them to develop their leadership skills in this important role.
