Our Commitment
Tasmanian Youth Orchestras (TYO) is committed to promoting and protecting the interests, safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
TYO has zero tolerance for child abuse, harm and neglect. We are committed to safeguarding children and young people in our care.
TYO commits to the Tasmanian Child and Youth Safe Standards, which guide our practices and procedures to ensure a safe and supportive environment for children and young people within TYO.
We place the best interests of children and young people, and their protection from harm, at the centre of TYO values, decisions, actions, policies and procedures; and involve children, young people and their families in decisions affecting them wherever possible.
Everyone involved in TYO in any capacity is responsible for the care and protection of children and young people and reporting information about child abuse, harm and neglect.
All concerns about safety raised by children and young people, their parents and carers will be acted upon by TYO.

If you believe a child is at immediate risk of abuse or harm, contact the Police by phoning 000.

Anyone involved with TYO can also choose to make a direct report to Strong Families Safe Kids at any time, if they have concerns about the safety or wellbeing of a child or young person.

TYO staff, volunteers, board and committee members, contractors, alumni, guest artists and participants aged 18 or older must report to the TYO CEO if they believe a child or young person is at risk of harm, or if concerns exist regarding the safety, welfare and wellbeing of a child or young person. TYO has legal and moral obligations to contact authorities when we have concerns about the safety of a child or young person; and to meet all requirements of the Reportable Conduct Scheme.

The TYO CEO will follow the requirements of the Reportable Conduct Scheme to a.) report to relevant parties at the earliest possible time and b.) conduct an investigation in accordance with the process specified by the National Office for Child Safety.

If the concern involves the TYO CEO, the issue should be reported to staff, who must bring a report directly to the TYO Board Chair. The TYO Board Chair will follow the requirements of the Reportable Conduct Scheme to a.) report to relevant parties at the earliest possible time and b.) conduct an investigation in accordance with the process specified by the National Office for Child Safety.
