Jack Machin

Conductor

Jack Machin has worked as a professional musician, teacher and conductor for the past 21 years. Throughout this time Jack has performed with the Melbourne, Sydney and Queensland Symphony Orchestras. During 2003 to 2009 Jack served as Principal Trombone for the Canberra Symphony Orchestra and performed with Opera Australia and the Griffin Ensemble. Jack has conducted a number of youth ensembles and has held the position of conductor and Director of Bands for Canberra Youth Orchestra Society. In 2012, Jack founded the Newcastle Youth Orchestra where he served as Artistic Director and Chief conductor for 5 years before taking a place on the board for a further 3 years. Since moving to Hobart in 2020, Jack has been privileged to work with many young local musicians and is the Director of Music at St Virgil’s College. This year, Jack began as conductor of the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra’s Chamber Orchestra where he enjoys working with some of Hobart’s most talented and committed young musicians.
